Does hypnotherapy work for trauma?

So does hypnotherapy work for trauma? Having just finished a post-trauma masterclass for hypnotherapists, I now realise just how powerful hypnotherapy is for trauma clients.

In the Western medical system, CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) and EDMR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy are recommended for trauma. Unfortunately, many people do not benefit from these modalities, and in some cases, they can re-traumatise the client.

Trauma is stored in the body at the “feeling” level. Therefore, a modality that targets this feeling level where the trauma is stored is required. Of course, there are thoughts, images, and memories associated with the trauma that will need to be healed. An experienced clinical hypnotherapist can deal with these over a few sessions.

Can hypnosis help with childhood trauma?


The short answer is yes! Whether it is childhood trauma that has been there for many years or an accident that happened a month ago that is still causing trouble, hypnotherapy will help release the trauma stored in the body.

How much does a session of hypnotherapy cost?

Hypnotherapy sessions can cost anywhere from $100-$500 per session and will go for approximately 60-90 minutes. However, just because you spend more does not mean that you’ll get a better therapist. An Australian Hypnotherapist Association therapist (AHA) will all have the same basic training which will be able to help you. When choosing a therapist, you need to trust your feelings since that’s what you’ll be working with! See if you resonate with the therapist, get a good vibe about them, and a sense that they can help you.

Does hypnotherapy work for trauma? It is possible to heal from trauma and the negative feelings that reside in the body. Still, you need to be ready to let go, and that is something that only you can know if you’re ready to do.
