Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for mental health is such an important part of any therapy to provide the realistic framework for change.

What is cognitive behavioural therapy?
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that recognises and questions unhelpful beliefs, thoughts and opinions. Once identified, the therapist and client work to create better thoughts and beliefs. These are then worked into realistic, practical solutions that will positively impact the client’s quality of life.
What can CBT treat?
CBT can treat many issues, including (but not limited to!) anxiety, OCD, PTSD, phobias, fears, depressions, hypochondria, addictions (smoking, gambling, alcohol), eating disorders, sleep issues, relationship issues, anger management and other emotional issues.
Can you do cognitive behavioural therapy and hypnotherapy?
Yes! And that’s actually what we do! CBT on it’s own is great and very beneficial for rationally figuring out what you need to change in your life and how to go about it. However, when you do it in hypnosis or even with EMDR, you can actually start to make and feel these changes in your physiology right away. So it’s like you’re getting a head start on positive change! You can see and feel what your new positive life is beginning to look like.

How much does CBT cost?
It depends what kind of therapist you are seeing. Usually psychologists are the most expensive, but they often come with a rebate. A specialist (like myself) can be anywhere from $80-$175 per session, but we usually have cheaper options available for low income earners or pensioners.
Can I do CBT online?
Yes! Sessions are available online or in the clinic on the Gold Coast.

Counselling on a mental health plan?
If you have a mental health plan from your doctor, you will be entitled to Medicare rebates when you see certain psychologists, and social workers. However, my understanding at the time of writing this is that it’s not free counselling, as you still need to pay the gap. Unfortunately, the waitlist to see these specialists can be lengthy and with mental health, you need to see someone NOW!
The Solution!
If you have a mental health care plan from your doctor, get in touch. Depending on your circumstances, I’m happy to do reduced cost counselling sessions, which is usually the cost of the gap you’d pay with a psychologist anyway!
What if I don’t have a mental health plan?
You don’t need a mental health plan to see a hypnotherapist or CBT practitioner. You do need a positive attitude, a desire to change and be willing to invest time and energy into change!
