Why aren’t the free hypnosis recordings working for me?

I have had a couple of clients contact me and say they have tried the free hypnosis recordings online and that they didn’t do anything for them. Although I believe hypnosis recordings are a great part of the healing journey, they rarely bring lasting change on their own.

Have you ever downloaded those free hypnotherapy sessions from websites or listened to them on YouTube? There is so much information online and so many free resources to help you in any area of self-help that it’s easy to think that you’ll never need to see a professional again in your life! There are some brilliant free sessions out there and they are perfectly good for relaxation and general well being however if you are wanting lasting change here are a few things you need to be aware of:

You are unique.

You have your own individual history that nobody else has. Trained therapists are taught how to uncover any unconscious resistance to change, unhelpful beliefs, and work with this to create recordings specifically for you. Your subconscious mind will also respond better to suggestions based on your wording, rather than random, generic scripts. There’s nothing wrong with generic scripts, and actually, they are truly powerful at times, but it’s important to target those unconscious blocks with something tailored for you.

You have to be invested.

To succeed, you have to commit. You have to be all in or all out. You can’t sort of want to lose the weight or kinda, sorta, maybe want to cut down smoking. Your unconscious mind doesn’t work like that. You’re either in or you’re out. Once you make that decision to cross the river of change, you have to burn the boat at the other side. You can’t go back. You are a new person with new beliefs and new habits. Those hypnosis recordings are a great way to dip your toes in and start feeling what it’s like to think differently, but it’s not the same as true change. True change requires jumping in the deep end and learning to swim as your new self.

Value.

We live in a world of energy. We give and receive and we feel good when we can do both. Sometimes when we get something for free, it doesn’t hold any value to us. If we haven’t paid for it, it has no worth. To our subconscious, the experience of a free session can have little or no lasting impact because it wasn’t deemed as being valuable. When we invest time, energy and money into a professional session with an experienced therapist, your subconscious mind knows that you are serious about change and will more readily jump on board to facilitate the desired change.

When you are truly ready to change, all these little moments of positive action will add up and be the building blocks by which you create lasting change; so never stop learning, researching and growing on your road to healing.
