Why change is so hard

Have you tried to make a positive change in your life, only to find yourself back into your old habits within a short amount of time? This is actually pretty common and usually what happens when we try to make a change from our conscious mind.

95% of our life is run by programs in our subconscious mind. These are our habits and conditioned responses to the world around us which have been building since the moment we were born. If you’re an experienced driver, you’ll know that when you get into a car to drive it, you don’t even think about what you’re doing. You just do it. Your body knows how to do it better than your thinking mind does! There is no thought involved, it just happens automatically. This is the subconscious mind.

These programs are running all the time. We have programs for smoking, drinking, fear-based reactions, anxiety… Everything in our life has a program. When we become conscious that some of these programs are not beneficial for us, then we want to change them. (eg. Stop Smoking, Lose weight etc.) But you cannot change these programs from the conscious mind, because that’s 5% trying to change the 95%. It’s not going to happen. At least not very easily from the conscious level.

So how do we change?

We need to change from the subconscious. That 95% that controls our habits and actions. This is where Hypnotherapy comes in and makes it so much easier to change those habits. We consciously evaluate the habits that need to be changed and discuss what new habits you would like “installed.” Then in hypnosis, we can access the subconscious directly and start installing these new programs with thoughts and imagery which the subconscious understands without the conscious mind getting in the way.

How do I create lasting change?

Habits. Once you begin practising these new positive actions daily, those programs become your new habit. A new way of being and living life. And like driving the car, these positive changes will become automatic, without any effort because it’s coming from that 95%.

Change doesn’t need to be hard. It should be something to get excited by and if you understand that to create lasting change, you need to change your daily habits, then you are well on your way to success! Hypnotherapy is a tool that can make that transition just a little easier.
